Georgia CORE to offer unique clinical research training program
5/19/2026, Georgia CORE
On May 20 -- National Clinical Trials Day, Georgia CORE has announced its "CORE Research Fundamentals," a new two-day, in-person training program for cancer clinical research professionals across the state. The program will equip research teams at Georgia’s oncology research sites with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to successfully execute cancer clinical trials in real-world settings.
“CORE Research Fundamentals reflects the operational realities of both community and academic research environments, supporting sites large and small,” said Georgia CORE Director of Research Strategy and Operations Shantoria Brown, MHA, CCRP. “The high-impact training program has a much broader purview than what other oncology-specific clinical research training programs currently offer in Georgia.”
As clinical research continues to expand across community and academic settings, there is a growing need for standardized, oncology-focused training to support consistent, high-quality trial execution across all site types, including networks such as NCI’s Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP). Without proper training, sites can face delays in staff onboarding and trial activation; inconsistent protocol interpretation; increased protocol deviations and audit risk; and variability in data quality and performance, according to Brown.
“This has been a long time in the making,” said Georgia CORE CEO Lynn M. Durham, EdD. “Building a research network to increase the number and participation of clinical trials has been a central part of our mission since Georgia CORE was founded more than two decades ago. We are excited to bring what Shantoria’s team created and has already shared with our Georgia NCORP partners to the greater cancer research community.”
Starting at $150 per participant with CEU credits available, scalable options are offered to meet the needs of both individuals and organizations. Individuals may enroll in virtual sessions which will be held bi-monthly, the first one being July 20-21. Please contact Brown at sbrown@georgiacore.org for more information on how to enroll.
Georgia CORE is a statewide nonprofit strengthening the state’s cancer fight through research, education and advocacy. Training and equipping cancer research teams across the state to successfully execute clinical trials will increase access to novel treatments for underserved Georgians while advancing research that will benefit all Georgians.
